The Mint is updating our Subscribers List and would like to offer you the opportunity to renew or open a subscription to Lasqueti Mint products. A Subscription for option #1 will guarantee you a Strike Number for all future mintages plus free shipping in Canada and a 10% discount off issue price for current issues.
The success of the “China Cloud “series could encourage you to commit to the new Subscriber program. All of the coins in the “China Cloud” series have increased in value on the secondary market. Some have increased by as much as 8X their issue price!! A recent sale on the secondary market of a full set of Lasqueti Mint Strike Numbered coins realized many times the original investment.
The potential financial returns are only one reason to have your subscription. The latest coin issued is a beautiful work of art that is receiving excellent reviews from subscribers and coin dealers. Every offering from the Lasqueti Mint is a hand made art piece in precious metal in limited edition.
The new “Cascadia “series builds on the original concept behind the “China Cloud” run. The concept was to establish a circulating coinage using precious metals that would maintain their value while paper currencies inflate out of existence. We also would like to create a means of exchange between communities of the Gulf Islands that would encourage commerce and communication.
This part of the original plan has met with appealing interest. The coins are being accepted not only on the Gulf Islands but also in other parts of the world!! Reports have come in from exotic lands about transactions taking place using Lasqueti Coins. The main problem is that “bad money drives out good money”. Most bullion coins see one or two transactions before being removed from circulation and held as keepsakes and a “store of value”. This is good news for the Mint in terms of the “collectability” of the coins but makes it hard to establish a continuing circulating coinage for now. The fact that these coins are so desirable suggests that they will be valued in future years as a means of exchange.
Another aspect of the “China Cloud” series was to offer the common reverse of the coin as a “free” die for communities to use in conjunction with their own obverse die design. Gabriola Island’s Festival Gabriola sponsored the Gabriola coin. This project was successful as a fund raiser and Gabriola Proof coins are selling at $110.00 on an issue cost of $49.00. Salt Spring Island issued a coin in 2007 and the proofs of that issue sold out at $100 ea in two weeks and are now selling on eBay for $300.00!
This same concept is expanded in the new “Cascadia” series with the offering of the common Cascadia reverse to communities and individuals from Juno Alaska to Santa Cruz California. The hope is that coins will be issued throughout the bioregion.
